Tony Whittle actor/writer/director
Tony trained at Mountview Theatre School. His theatre credits include: Neville’s Island at Bolton Octagon (Manchester Evening News Award winner); The Adventures of Mr Toad (the Watermill Theatre, Newbury); Wakey Wakey,Firestone and The Billy Cotton Story at (the Coventry Belgrade); Fur Coat and No Knickers (the Nottingham Playhouse) and several plays at Oldham Coliseum Theatre, including Dick Whittington, Spring and Port Wine, Funny Peculiar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hanky Park and Robin Hood. He has also performed in A View From the Bridge (the Greenwich Theatre) and Ham (Derby Playhouse). Tony was in LesMisérables(the Palace Theatre) and Much Revue About Nothing (the King’s Head Theatre). He appeared in productions over three seasons at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, including Twelfth Night, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Troilus and Cressida, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, All’s Well That Ends Well, Kiss Me, Kate, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Tony was in the musical Sweat at the Peacock Theatre. Tony has toured the United Arab Emirates with various New Shakespeare Theatre productions. He played Rick in Viva Espana, which won the Best Fringe Musical Award, and has toured with productions including Singin’ in the Rain, which started at the West Yorkshire Playhouse; Rockula and Fur Coat and No Knickers, which started at Oldham Coliseum and Nottingham Playhouse respectively, and In the Midnight Hour from Coventry. Tony played Nurse Nanny Nora in Sleeping Beauty at Hounslow Theatre. Tony has been Assistant Director and appeared in Cinderella as Ugly Sister, Dick Whittington playing Alderman Fitzwarren, Sgt Pong in Aladdin, Baron Bonkers in Mother Goose and Runner Bean in Jack and the Beanstalk at The Hackney Empire.
Concerts include Highams Park, Chelmsford, and Belfast Arena’s production of Les Misérables. Tony can be seen on the DVD of Les Misérables at the O2 Arena. He was a voiceover artist for the film of Les Miserables and can be heard on the Albert Hall CD of Les Miserables. Television credits include Coronation Street, Peak Practice, Dream Team, Mornin’ Sarge, Wogan, The Bill and The Putney Conundrum. Tony has presented adverts for The Observer newspaper and the Biography Channel
Tony was The Assistant Director of the comedy festival at Hackney Empire as part of the London Olympic celebrations.
Tony has appeared in and directed two pantomimes at the Leicester De Montfort Hall.
Tony was Resident Director of The Last Tango with Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace. It completed a year long tour culminating at The Phoenix Theatre in London.
Tony was at The Hackney Empire last year playing Alderman Fitzwarren in Dick Whittington.
Tony, with his writing partner Teddy, were commissioned to write the screenplay for a feature film of The Last Tango.Tony co-directed and play Councillor Higginbottom in the pantomime 'Jack And The Beanstalk' at The Hackney Empire 2021/2022
Tony played Greenway/Santa on the tour of Elf The Musical in Bahrain and Dubai.
